Folk Tale Week 2018
This is a collection of images I made for various folk tales when I participated in
'Folk tale week 2018'.
Theme: Magic ~ 'The Celebration of the Underground Creatures A Norwegian Fairytale' by Brothers Grimm. In short, a couple who has fled their overbearing families and washed up on an island find solace in an uninhabited (and very welcoming) house. The owner, an old lady, returns years later and says they may stay with their child in the house apart from 1 night of the year on Yule Eve when they awake the stone giant for a celebration. They must remain quiet in the attic and not look at the feast taking form below them in the house. The mother ends up peeping and the spell is broken and the giant is eternally frozen, never to be awoken again. This scene is from when the family are watching the celebration begin as little dwarfs carry blue lights to the god to begin the ceremony.
Theme: Animal ~ Greek mythology. The general gist is that Zeus cheated on Hera with Callisto, she then bore a son, Arcas. Out of jealousy, Hera turned Callisto into a bear in the human realm. Later when her son was more grown, Hera orchestrated it so Arcas nearly shot his mother with an arrow whilst hunting. In order to save Callisto, Zeus reached down from the heavens and scooped up the bear. She now remains safely in the sky, appearing as the the constellation The Great Bear (Ursa Major).
Theme: Forest ~ 'The Three Little Gnomes in the Forest' - Brothers Grimm. The fathers daughter is walking in the snow to find strawberries wearing a dress made of paper.
